What have I learnt in the progression from the preliminary task to the full product?
The process of producing our full product was not in any resemblence of what we thought it would be upon completion of our first task. Although improvements could've been made on in the editing of our preliminary task (i.e a slight lack of continuity), we felt that it was relatively easy and were confident we could construct our main task without any issues. I had not personally dealt with the camera set up before so i found that filming actually required more effort and carefulness than i had initially expected. Infact, based on my height (well, lack thereof) we knew that i would be the least suitable to manoeuvre the camera, particularly the high angle shots which i struggled with. When filming the kidnap scene, both Billy and Keenan were needed as actors in the scene, leaving me to film the shots of kidnapper approaching his victim in the dark room. As a result of the sensitive lighting and my amateur filming skills a shadow of my arm can bee seen in one of the shots we used.
Furthermore, we realised the importance of implementing some level of control over lighting and sound. We encountered no obstacles when shooting the preliminary task because we chose a spacy location, eluminated by natural light, at a time when there weren't many people or things around that produced much noise. In contrast, we dealt with smaller badly lit rooms for the main task and reviewing the footage we could hear audible sounds from outside the set.
I personally began to understand the value of realism and creating enigma when producing the more developed narrative. We made decisions specifically to create this effect. Whereas, in heindsight our first task seemed unrealistic and lacked the same enthralling sense of mystery for the audience.
