Target Audience Identification
Identifying the target audience in filmography is the basis of film promotion, a successful film will have a well defined demographic which will allow the production company to choose the appropriate the pricing and distribution of their product.
In order to identify the appropriate demographic for our psychological thriller we needed to consider relevant categories within society, such as...
-
Class
-
Age
-
Sexuality
-
Nationality
-
Subculture
Profile:

Age: 18 to 25 years
Gender: Male or female
Class: Working Class
Sexuality: Any
Nationality: Any
The film will directs at adults ranging from late teens to mid-thirties. They are interested in fictional stories that incorporate mysterious happenings and plot twists that create feelings of shock, fear and suspense. They are old enough to appropriately watch disturbing themes that frequently occur in psychological thrillers, such as violence, bloodshed, murder and torture. Unlike older demographics, such as 50+ audiences, our target audience are less susceptible to being put off by horrific, unnatural images and so are less likely to feel negatively about the film. Ideally, they are in a developed urban environment, perhaps allowing them to be familiar with the concept of individual and gang-related crimes that occur in cities. They are intrigued by confusion, uncertainty and horror and so are keen to calculate what’s going on in the narrative.
